Reviews

And Then Boom! Is an inspiring book that will change your mind about people in poverty. It really helped me see things from another point of view. I finished the book pretty fast because it was in verse, but the writing did really help me feel like I was in the main character’s shoes. I just wanted to keep reading on and on. Overall, I think anyone would like this book so you should definitely give it a try.

And Then, Boom! is a beautiful book by Lisa Fipps. The author of Starfish. This book is an amazing realistic-fiction book about how a kid named Joe Oak struggles to survive with his grandmum. His mom sometimes gets something which in the book is called The Itch when she leaves for an amount of time which can span from a few days to a whole year. My favorite part of the book is when Joe and his grandma finally find a decent home, a mobile home that Joe called The Overripe Banana. He called it that because the yellow paint on the mobile home was peeling off, creating brown dots on the mostly yellow mobile home. I recommend this book if you like a quick read or if you like a book where the main character has some sort of problem where he overcomes it. One of the messages this book presents is bravery. Joe Oak was brave enough to break open his mobile home’s window, jump out of it with his 2 puppies and 1grown dog, getting injured in the process and run to a tree to tie himself to it. All to survive a tornado! Overall, this is a very good book and fi you decide to read it, you won’t be disappointed.

This book made me feel sad and hopeful. My favorite character was Uncle Frank because of his personality. My favorite part was when Joe finds the dogs. I think others should read this book because it has a good story.
