Reviews

This book is about the culture of city life living in the Bronx. If you like hustle and bustle, dancing, and art you should read this book. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful, and exciting.

My Block Looks Like, written by Janelle Harper, is a pretty good book. In her book she shares what her neighborhood looks and feels like. She does this by using a lot of adjectives and great illustrations drawn by Frank Morrison. The author’s writing is new to me and surprised me
because it’s like a poem. This is because she doesn’t speak in complete sentences and some of the words rhyme. This book is mostly lines of descriptive words and the words help you use most of your five senses to visualize what it would be like to live in her neighborhood. The brilliant illustrations match the author’s description perfectly too and were my favorite part of the book. I imagine the author’s neighborhood filled with bright colors, exciting graffiti art, a lot of concrete buildings and sidewalks. She lives in a city where there is a lot of movement, laughter
and friendship. The most important message in the book is how the author loves where she lives and cares about it so much and couldn’t be happier to live in the Bronx. I can relate to the main message because l very much love where I live. Overall I would recommend this book to people who like poems and lively vibrant art.
