The book Project F by Jeanne DuPrau would be the perfect story for 4th graders and younger. The idea of conservation is something I really like. I also like the way the characters decided to act and how one decision changed their entire future. I found this book to be suspenseful. The little girl, Lulu, was my favorite character because she has a big secret. Read to the end to find out her secret.
