Reviews

If you like animals or want to learn more about them then you should read Saving H’non: Chang and the Elephant by Trang Nguyen and Jeet Zdung. This book is a graphic novel. The book made me realize how serious animal abuse really is for both the animal itself and the environment. Other kids should read the book because it makes people more aware about animal abuse in zoos. I don’t know which character was the best in my opinion but I liked them all.

In the book Saving H’non by Jeet Zdung and Trang Nuygen, it tells about how a girl called Chang saves an elephant named H’non. This book might appeal to younger readers, or people who love animals, as the book is about a girl saving an elephant. In the book, my favorite character was H’non, the elephant that was rescued. H’non was put to work, as with many other elephants, but what made him stand out to me was that he was wholesome in the book. This book made me concerned for the elephants, seeing as the elephants were and are used for work. Elephants today are still used as attractions, and for work also, which references the real-life events happening to animals. The book genre is realistic-fiction, as the book is based on the real life elephant, H’non. Some things are made up, such as the main character Chang, but some of the events that happen in the story are real and do happen in real life. Other kids should read this book because it brings awareness to the way animals are used for entertainment and for work, and not just elephants that experience it, but some other animals also.

This is a great book for people who love the environment (such as myself). This book was an inspiring story about a girl named Chang who had to figure out how to save an elephant named H’non. This was a quick read, though (It’s a graphic novel). I loved the artwork, it really set the mood in the book. All in all, you should definitely give this book a chance.
